Eats BMU — Terms of Use
DRAFT — to be reviewed before public launch.
1. Who we are
Eats BMU is a student-run service that lets BMU students and staff order food and groceries from stores on and around campus. It is run by Ajay Choudhary (the "operator"). Contact details are at the bottom of every page.
2. Who can use Eats BMU
- You need a BMU email address (ending in @bmu.edu.in or @bml.edu.in) to sign in.
- You must give your real name and a working phone number, so a store can hand over your order.
- Keep your email account safe. Anyone who can read your email can sign in as you.
3. Stores sell the food, not Eats BMU
- Each store prepares, packs and sells its own food. The store is responsible for its quality, safety, hygiene, allergens and FSSAI licence. Each store page shows the seller's name, address, phone and FSSAI number.
- Eats BMU only shows menus, passes your order to the store, and helps if something goes wrong.
4. Prices and fees
- The price you see is the store's price. Before you place an order you see the full breakup: items, any delivery fee, and the total. There are no hidden fees and no cancellation fees.
- Delivery is only to the gates of hostels and the staff residence. Each store sets its own delivery fee and the order value above which delivery is free.
5. Paying
- You pay the store directly. Eats BMU never receives or holds your money.
- Cash is allowed for orders up to ₹500 if you have fewer than 3 active strikes (see section 8).
- UPI goes to the store's own business UPI ID. After paying, enter the 12-digit UPI reference. If you don't enter it within 10 minutes, the order is cancelled.
6. Changing or cancelling an order
- For 1 minute after you place an order you can edit or cancel it for free. The store doesn't see it yet.
- After that, you can cancel until the store accepts the order. After the store accepts, you can't cancel.
- If a store doesn't accept within 3 minutes (while it is open), the order is cancelled automatically.
7. Refunds
- If a UPI order you already paid for is cancelled, or an item you paid for is removed, the store must refund you by UPI within 24 hours. You can see the refund status on your order page.
- If a refund is late, use "Report an issue" and we will follow it up with the store.
8. Collecting your order and strikes
- Every order has a 4-digit code. Show it at the counter or at the gate to collect your food.
- If you don't collect a cash order within 15 minutes of it being ready, it counts as a strike. Strikes expire after 30 days. With 3 active strikes, cash is paused but UPI still works. Prepaid orders never cause a strike.
9. What's not allowed
- Stores may not sell tobacco, cigarettes, vapes, alcohol, gutka, pan masala or anything illegal. We block such items.
- Don't misuse the service: no fake orders, no abusing store staff, no attempts to break or overload the service, no sharing other people's codes or accounts. We may suspend accounts that do this.
10. Limits of our responsibility
- We work hard to keep Eats BMU running, but it may sometimes be unavailable or make mistakes.
- To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for a store's food, delays or conduct; your claim for those is against the store, and we will help you raise it. Nothing here limits your rights under Indian consumer law.
11. Complaints (grievance officer)
- Use "Report an issue" on any order, or email the grievance officer named at the bottom of every page.
- You get a ticket number right away. We acknowledge every complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days.
12. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we show you the new version and ask you to accept it the next time you sign in. Each version has a number and date.
13. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts in Haryana have jurisdiction.
